We stayed at Shanghai Mansion for 2 nights on our way home from a tour of several Thailand locations. We chose the hotel specifically to experience the crazy heart of Chinatown, and that was exactly what we got! The hotel is located in the centre of the the main road of Bangkok's Chinatown, it is a busy street during the day and at night it is a throng of both locals and tourists sampling the street food from the vendors who line both sides of the street. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the river and just a few minutes from the metro station. The hotel itself is nicely decorated in a retro style and our room was large with all the facilities, TV, mini bar, AC, robe & slippers etc. The rooms don't have much natural light. Despite the street noise, our room was very quiet and we slept well on our firm but comfy bed. Breakfast was basic but good.

Shanghai Mansion is simple to find, and has a great atmosphere upon entering. You first enter to a bar/restaurant area, with live music overlooking the busy street of food stalls. Approaching the reception, across the bridge over a pond, the noise of the street decreases and there is a warm, welcoming smell. You are greeted with smiles and a glass of cold refreshing tea before checking in. You are shown to your bedroom, which are decorated just as pictures show, with a large comfy bed! No windows in the bedroom, which personally throws me off a little as I much prefer natural light. Room service (food/drink) and laundry services are available. Pros: Welcoming - kind and friendly staff Great spa - massage was amazing Ideal location for a wide range of food Comfy bed

The art, furniture, room style and interior architecture was a true testament to Shanghai in the old tradititions. The tea and appetizer complimentary offer with the excellent traditional chord instrument female musician playing for us was a divine pleasure for the senses. And the SPA professional therapeutic massage with herb scented oil that I chose was absolutely wonderful and very reasonably priced for a two hours session. To top it all, the staff at this hotel was wonderful and kind and helpful in every way, including helping me get a taxi with the Grab app while helping me learn how to use my newly downloaded app. Because of all that, I really think this hotel and its staff deserve a 10 perfect score. I will certainly return there on my next trip to Bangkok.

The hotel is situated in the very heart of Chinatown. Considering its location the quietness at the rooms came as a suprise. The rooms were small the beds were ok and the breakfast was pretty good. Starting from this location to explore Chinatown and Bangkok is a completely different, very intense experience compared what we kept in mind from Khaosan Road. Chinatown is full of street food and spicy dishes, lots of gold selling stores and many other temptations. The restaurant belonging to the hotel was open 6 days a week (closed on Mondays) offering live music in the evening (not always enjoyable) excellent drinks and good food. As guests in here are usually on the road the small rooms cannot be seen as a problem.

We were greeted with refreshing chrysanthemum tea and allowed to check in early. The hotel is stunning and stylish from top to bottom, and our rooms were kept blissfully cool. It was a perfect haven from the hot, busy street outside without all of the noise. This was without a doubt the most convenient location in Chinatown, with everything at your doorstep. The bar has a great vibe, and though we didn't dine at the restaurant, the food looked delicious. Service was wonderful and attentive, and our return airport transfer service was excellent. Highly recommended.
